From the edge of the village, near the school, you can drive less than a mile inland to the Sulfur Springs and hot water pools. French soldiers once relaxed in baths built around the springs, and today islanders use the steamy waters for bathing and washing clothes. Driving is British-style, on the left. There are paved roads to all the main towns and villages, except in the northeast part of the island where most rodas are little more than dirt paths.
